A Message from OUR President
“Informative!”
“Organized!” “Collegial!” “Fun!” “Great speakers!”
These are just a few words we have heard about the successful ORCA conference. Those of you who were able to be with us, please spread the word and let your colleagues know what a valuable time it was and encourage them to join us next fall! For those of you who were unable to attend, please mark your calendars for next year’s conference—October 28, 29, & 30th, 2010, and plan to join us in Silverton’s resort area. As I shared at the conference, one of the main goals of ORCA is to foster connection and communication among all counselors in all specialties throughout Oregon. The fall conference is a wonderful opportunity to work towards this. And the conference would not have been possible without our phenomenal planning committee. ORCA cannot adequately express our gratitude for the superb job of planning and implementing this year’s conference to co-chairs Dina Yerex, Rachel Starck, and their great conference committee team. Thank you so much for the excellent leadership and for all of your wonderful work!
We had an enthusiastic response from many of you at the conference who would like to be more involved with ORCA. CJ, our membership chair and presidential liaison, will be following up with you to begin getting you connected. We would love to have more and more of you serving on ORCA committees and on the Board. In particular, ORCA needs someone who is interested in legislative issues to head up the Public Policy and Legislative committee. This committee is a key component of ORCA’s goal to provide advocacy for the counseling profession and for our clients. Please let us know if you are willing and able to offer your valuable service in this or any area.
Your ORCA Board will be meeting again on February 6. Please let me know if there are topics that you would like us to address. The more we all work together, the greater the benefit for counseling in Oregon and for our clients.
Patricia Kyle, Ph.D., ORCA President
